FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Top Local Bands to Play Ernie Ball “Battle 6” Stage at

Vans Warped Tour ’02 in Milwaukee on July 24

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (July 23, 2002) – Four local bands get their big break this summer, winning a spot on the coveted Vans Warped Tour ‘02 as a result of placing in the first round of Ernie Ball’s Battle of the Bands 6. The tour is the top youth culture and music festival coming to the Milwaukee Marcus Amphitheatre Lot on July 24, and has helped launch the career of many well-known acts. All four bands will play on the Ernie Ball Local Heroes Stage, performing in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans, as well as record company and music industry executives.

Winning bands include:  Habitat of Greendale, StumbleRun of Madison, Tom Servos of Menomonee Falls, and Truth in Fiction of Waterford.

Ryan Manger, guitarist and  vocalist of Habitat said, “The whole band is excited. To be playing along side some of our favorite bands like Thursday, Glassjaw, and 3rd Strike is a dream come true. Having something on our music resume saying we’ve playing the Vans Warped Tour, and on the Ernie Ball Stage, is going to open a lot of doors for us.”

“We can’t wait to play the Ernie Ball Stage,” said Luke Bandy, drummer of StumbleRun. “Hopefully, people will hear our music and judge for themselves. We just need the right exposure to come along with our careers.”

“It feels great knowing that a lot of the bands that have influenced our music will be playing there,” said Joey Houghtaling, guitarist of Tom Servos. “We hope that this exposure will take us to the next step. Playing a show this size is so important to building up a fan base.”

Dan Beres, guitarist of Truth in Fiction said, “It’s a great feeling to know we’re playing as part of the Warped Tour. Hopefully this opportunity will bring our music to a larger audience.”

More than 2,600 bands from the U.S. and Canada entered the contest by uploading photos, a biography and a one song MP3 audio file onto the Battle of the Bands 6 site.

Beginning June 15, Ernie Ball will post the song, bio, and image of each band selected to perform at the Warped Tour on the official Battle of the Bands 6 website for fans to check out and vote for their favorite band. Voting ends September 3. The five bands with the most online votes will win thousands of dollars in prizes from Battle of the Band 6 sponsors including Guitar World, Drum Workshop, EV (Electro-Voice), Zildjian, Remo, Digidesign, Line 6, Roland and Hartke.

Each of the 46 Warped Tour 2002 stops will feature four local-area bands that made the initial Battle of the Band 6 cut. The Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 6 is the longest running and largest live music promotion, giving emerging bands worldwide a chance to play live.                The Vans Warped Tour (www.warpedtour.com) has jump-started the careers of Blink-182, No Doubt, 311, Eminem, Kid Rock, Sugar Ray, Limp Bizkit, and Papa Roach. The tour promotes a youth culture festival that features music and gravity defying sports including BMX, motocross and skateboarding.

The Ernie Ball Company was the first to offer rock strings with the creation of Slinkys, and further revolutionized the market by offering guitarists Custom-Gauge single strings.  Ernie Ball also produces Music Man guitars and basses, volume pedals and accessories.
